In-Depth Reviews Of The Best HP Laptop For Students

It means that the best HP laptops usually have more value than their competitors like Dell and Apple. They fall into that sweet spot by not charging consumers a premium.

So even if your budget is a little flexible, you don't have to go for the most expensive options. You know you can get a quality laptop even if you spend less.

#1. HP 15 Touchscreen Premium - Best For Performance

1. HP 15 Touchscreen Premium

Today's Best Deals: View on Amazon

Important Specifications

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-1035G1

  • Hard drive size: 512 GB

  • Maximum resolution: 1366 x 768 pixels

  • Operating system: ‎Windows 10 Home

Product's highlights

This HP 15 version includes an i5-1035G1 processor, integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620, 512 GB hard drive, 16GB RAM, and a 15.6-inch 1366 x 768 touchscreen display.

These standards are enough for simple operations like word processing, but they are insufficient for more complicated video editing and gaming jobs.

The HP 15 has a Full HD resolution IPS matrix. It generally entails high image quality and a broad field of view. Unfortunately, the laptop's bezel isn't outstanding.

Contrast is the most prominent feature of the display. The measured value is around 1203: 1, which is a fantastic result that gives the exhibited images more visual depth and "richness."

Low brightness is a bad thing. We measured the brightness by the colorimeter, resulting only in 266 cd/m2. When you take a laptop outside the apartment or place it on a table near the window, the sunlight drastically minimizes the text display.

The HP 15 worked admirably in terms of case temperature. We'll just say that the warmest spot I found had a temperature of 104°F.

The temperature is lower in other sections of the work panel. It's nice to have some more room beneath the wrists.

The HP 15 premium outperformed the HP Envy x360 13 in CPU and total performance tests. The Intel Core i5-1035G1 proves to be a more powerful CPU in Cinebench testing.

The laptop includes A 41 Wh battery. We used a PC Mark 10 to evaluate the battery. The following are the outcomes:

7 hours and 13 minutes of video (optimal mode, 30 percent brightness).

4 hours 45 minutes in the office (optimal, 30 percent brightness).

1 hour and 25 minutes of games (maximum, 100 percent brightness).

10 hours and 5 minutes of inactivity (energy saving, brightness 25 percent).

Unfortunately, the amount of time you can work on a single charge isn't too long. As a result, the HP 15s are more suited for use at home or in the office than long-term outdoor work.

The rechargeable battery will last around five hours of playtime and seven hours of movie viewing when used away from an outlet.

What We Like

  • Attractive design with some premium touches

  • Includes touch screen

  • Decent battery life

  • Large hard drive

Things to Consider

  • The touch screen is not very user-friendly

  • The screen resolution is only 1366 x 768

  • A lot of bloats

#2. Envy x360 2-in-1 - Best For Stunning Display

2. HP Envy x360 2-in-1

Today's Best Deals: View on Amazon

Important Specifications

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-1065G7

  • Hard drive size: 512 GB.

  • Maximum resolution: 1920 x 1080 pixels.

  • Operating system: ‎Windows 10.

Product's highlights

HP ENVY x360 succeeded in meeting our demands: to enable you to view content, complete work tasks, express yourself, and create.

The design of the laptop makes it versatile for both work and creativity. The laptop comes in an all-metal case made of high quality and durable materials.

The 360-degree lid attachment allows you to adapt your laptop to different environments. The keyboard is foldable back completely, turning the device into a tablet. The laptop also has a touchscreen display and a stylus, expanding its capabilities.

We worked with it in four different modes:

  • Laptop model: Standard use for work.

  • Tablet mode: Be suitable for using the device on the go. You can use your device to draw like a graphics tablet in this mode.

  • Content viewing mode: You can remove the panel with the keyboard so that nothing distracts you from watching movies in the evening or flipping through the feed on social networks.

  • Presentation mode: It is convenient to use the panel with the keyboard as a stand for presentations in the office.

The diagonal of the screen is 15.6 inches, while the share of the usable area is 88.67%. This indicator is one of the highest indicators on the market.

The display covers 100% of the sRGB color space. It means that the color rendition will be the way the author intended it, reflecting all colors and shades as accurately as possible. It makes the laptop ideal for creativity and content creation.

Another significant plus is the wide viewing angle of the screen of 178 degrees. The image will not distort and will not give glare, even if you are making a video call with other people or showing a presentation to an entire audience.

The HP ENVY x360 has a silver backlit keyboard with an optimal 1.5 mm key travel. Very handy for working with text.

The plus of the keyboard of this laptop is that all the shortcut keys are located in one area. You can easily navigate the screen without being distracted by finding the desired key.

What We Like

  • Outstanding productivity results

  • Most low to medium loads are quiet

  • M.2 storage and expandable RAM

  • Included is a stylus

  • Solid build quality with a good keyboard and a bright monitor.

  • Sturdy hinges

  • A wide range of ports are available

Things to Consider

  • Adobe programs perform poorly

  • Bloatware is bothersome because there is no IR, and it isn't compatible with Windows Hello

#3. Pavilion 15 - Best For Complicated Tasks

3. HP Pavilion 15

Today's Best Deals: View on Amazon

Important Specifications

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-1165G7

  • Hard drive size: 512GB.

  • Maximum resolution: ‎‎1920 x 1080 pixels.

  • Operating system: ‎Windows 10 Pro.

Product's highlights

From a technical point of view, Pavilion 15 is not in the top-end configuration. But, we can say that this inexpensive laptop is a cross between regular office models and hardcore gaming laptops.

The device has an IPS panel with a diagonal of 15.6 inches and no bells and whistles regarding the increased frame rate. The surface of the screen is matte, which is a plus.

Color reproduction is calm and natural, and viewing angles are not the widest. The brightness margin is slightly above average. It was not entirely comfortable for us to use a laptop at full brightness. It reduced to 70-80%.

There is enough power here, even for simple photo and video processing. Anyone who lacks the built-in RAM here can expand the RAM at any time. A free slot is available for use.

The equipment of the HP Pavilion deserves attention. The fast 512GB Intel Optane Memory hard drive offers ample space for data while keeping your system up and running quickly.

There is a slot for SDXC memory cards on board and three USB 3.1 ports (Type-C) for fast data transfer. In addition to all of the above, the laptop has Bluetooth, WLAN-ac, and a gigabit Ethernet connector.

You can connect an external monitor or projector via HDMI. And, as has become commonplace for ultrabooks (and the Pavilion is only 2 centimeters high), HP refuses to place an optical drive in it.

Another problem is that the transparent characters on the silver keys do not provide enough contrast in bright environments and can sometimes be difficult to distinguish. But the "mouse substitute" is good, even if it seems a little sticky with fast movements.

The 15.6-inch device, thanks to its excellent hardware, was particularly convincing in the Performance category during testing. Except for the increased noise under load and the average display characteristics, the test revealed almost no flaws.

What We Like

  • high-performance processor

  • chic design

  • good battery life

Things to Consider

  • relatively noisy under full load

  • the display is somewhat dark

#4. Pavilion x360 - Best For Editing And Creating

4. HP Pavilion x360

Today's Best Deals: View on Amazon

Important Specifications

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-1135G7

  • Hard drive size: 256GB

  • Maximum resolution: ‎‎1920 x 1080 Pixels

  • Operating system: ‎‎Windows 10 Home

Product's highlights

The 2019 Pavilion x360 is another step towards perfection. It is a full-fledged transformer with a hinge to rotate the display 360 degrees.

The screen here is a touchscreen and reacts to the stylus. However, the Pavilion x360 is a multimedia laptop, ideally suited for content consumption.

What pleases unconditionally is the abundance of ports, uncharacteristic for modern compact laptops. There is a USB 3.1 with a mini-jack for headphones and a Kensington lock on the left side.

The air duct of the cooling system is also brought out here and the power button. There is a slot for an SD memory card, a second USB 3.1, USB Type-C, HDMI, and a charger connector on the right side.

That is everything you need to connect peripherals and work comfortably without additional adapters.

The Pavilion x360 has a classic membrane keyboard with no Num-block and an American one-story Enter; there is enough space between the keys. The large touchpad supports slightly shifted to the left and multitouch gestures.

The Pavilion x360 received a 14-inch LCD with an IPS-matrix resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. The main source of pride for the manufacturer in this regard is the coverage of 45% of the NTSC color space, due to which the monitor provides very accurate color reproduction.

The second main feature is the touch screen cover, thanks to which you can use the Pavilion x360 as a folded tablet. This feature, however, has a downside: the screen reflects. So using the laptop outdoors will not be very comfortable.

At the head of everything is the eighth-generation Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor. Its two cores run at a base clock speed of 2.4 GHz, up to 4.2 GHz if needed through Turbo Boost.

The system power is enough for normal operation in basic programs, such as Internet surfing and video playback of any resolution. The high-quality screen helps you in processing photos.

What We Like

  • High-quality construction

  • The keyboard is excellent for typing on

  • Strong performance

  • Excellent sound

Things to Consider

  • The screen is dull and muted.

  • Lacks Wi-Fi transmission rates on average

#5. Spectre x360 - Best For Superior Autonomy

5. HP Spectre x360

Today's Best Deals: View on Amazon

Important Specifications

  • Processor: Intel i7-1065G7

  • Hard drive size: 512GB

  • Maximum resolution: 1920 x 1080 pixels

  • Operating system: ‎Windows 10

Product's highlights

The Spectre x360 is one of the flagship laptops equipped with new 10th Gen Intel processors. It combines style, portability, and high performance.

First impressions are impeccable. Like its predecessors, this Spectre x360 is a great laptop that's thin, lightweight, and easy to carry.

Windows 10 boots quickly, the system runs smoothly. And you can even play a few simple games on it, provided you don't mind low-level graphics.

The main difference between the Spectre x360 2021 over regular laptops is that they can rotate 360°. This feature makes it possible to use a laptop in normal and tablet mode.

The Spectre x360 2021 features a 4K HDR display with touch and stylus support. Color quality is excellent, and the DCI-P3 color range is also supported, an important point for those involved in photo processing.

Touch control is useful if you are using the laptop in tablet mode. Stylus control is useful for students who do graphics.

Most impressive, though, is the battery life of the new HP laptop. The Spectre x360 lasts about 13 hours on our PCMark 10 benchmark.

There is generally enough RAM here, but we would like to see a 32 GB memory version. The processor has enough power.

Games, in most cases, run at a stable 45 fps in FullHD resolution with minimum-medium settings.

There are no problems with office applications, as well as with photo and video editors. Visual Studio and QT work stably like other code compilers. You can work in Unity 3D if you want, but the graphics power will not be enough.

From practical experience, we can easily work a full day on a laptop. If you're under the impression that Windows 10 laptops can't compete with MacBooks or Chromebooks in terms of battery life, the Spectre x360 will easily prove your mistake.

But there are still some flaws. When the laptop turns off the keyboard in tablet mode, you can not wake it up from sleep mode.

This defect happens because there are no additional keys for unlocking. Therefore, you have to unfold the laptop to unlock the laptop again.

What We Like

  • Design is stunning

  • OLED display

  • Quad-speakers with a lot of power

  • Long battery life

  • Instant-on functionality

Things to Consider

  • There is no HDMI port

  • RAM and WLAN are not upgradeable

#6. ZBook 15 G3 - Best For Professional Work

6. HP ZBook 15 G3

Today's Best Deals: View on Amazon

Important Specifications

  • Processor: ‎Intel Core i7-6700HQ

  • Hard drive size: 512GB.

  • Maximum resolution: ‎3840 x2 160 Pixels.

  • Operating system: ‎Windows 10 Home.

Product's highlights

Mobile workstations are a special category of laptops. They are large, heavy, and very expensive devices, but also very powerful.

The ZBook G3 series replaces the outdated ProBook and EliteBook series. We have already tested the ZBook 15 G3 and were very pleased. This laptop will compete primarily with Dell and Lenovo mobile workstations.

The build quality is amazing, with the aluminum lid and bottom panel being very hard and hardly giving in to pressure. The resistance to twisting and shaking is also excellent, as with its predecessors from the EliteBook series.

As befits a decent mobile workstation, the ZBook 15 G3 delighted us with a wide range of interfaces. There are DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, USB 2.0, and VGA.

The latter two come in handy for legacy peripherals that are not USB 3.0 compliant and non-DisplayPort monitors. There is also a proprietary docking port located on the laptop's bottom.

Speaking of quality, the ZBook 15 G3 is one of the best build quality mobile workstations we've seen through our hands. The device is very easy to maintain thanks to an easily removable bottom bezel, although cleaning the fans is more difficult and requires partial disassembly.

We were pleased with the system's performance, although we recommend installing a full-fledged SSD with 128 GB and using a 2.5-inch hard drive for data storage. This configuration will provide excellent performance for all system components, not just those that fit on the SSD cache, and there will be enough storage memory.

Now let's talk about the lack of the ZBook 15 G3: FireWire, eSATA, and HDMI video output. The first two are unlikely to be necessary by anyone these days. But the latter would be very useful because HDMI is now installed on almost every screen.

Let's see what you can do on this laptop:

  • good expandability

  • fast Wifi

  • individual configurations
